Maritime Security

Maritime Security: book copy editing and project management

I was commissioned by The Nautical Institute to work as the copy editor on Maritime Security, a new and extended guide for seafarers. The book pulled together three seminal texts on the subject and updated them, ten years after they were first published.

I worked closely with the author (a global security expert), peer reviewers, designer and publisher to ensure that the copy flowed well, was grammatically accurate and reflected the author’s vision and voice. The book was launched at an industry event in London at the end of 2023 and has been very well received by the wider maritime sector.

Bill Brown’s Bridges: book editing and research

Bill Brown’s Bridges is the commissioned biography of leading British engineer, Dr William Brown. I edited and assisted in research for this 148-page book, which was launched at the Institution of Civil Engineers headquarters in Westminster, London.

The book has since been distributed throughout the engineering world and met with much praise. I worked closely with the author over a number of months to provide editing, proofing and research support and ensure the production of a top-quality publication.

Detail Design

Detail Design: website content

I have worked with leading graphic design agency, Detail Design for many years now on a variety of copywriting and proofreading projects. Towards the end of 2020, the agency updated its website and commissioned me to write updated, SEO-friendly content. This involved writing many of the main website pages, along with a set of client case studies to showcase the agency’s talents.

I took copy from multiple sources and rewrote it for consistency across the board. The project also involved close liaison with the design team to ensure my content aligned with the chosen images and overall branding.

DogFit

DogFit: blogging and podcast transcription

Canicross sporting brand, DogFit has an intelligent, engaged community of canicross trainers and participants who rely on the company’s website and blog pages for news and updates. I was commissioned to provide a series of canicross and fitness related blogs.

Some came from ideas I researched and wrote up myself. Others were based on podcast interviews with well-known figures in the canicrossing world. I transcribed their interviews and used the scripts to write related blogs and informed digital marketing materials.
