Emma Ward's Words

Book editing

Bill Brown's Bridges

During the second half of 2015, Emma Ward's Words took on one of our biggest projects

to date. Our client had been commissioned to research, write, design and publish the official

biography of Dr William Brown, an esteemed suspension bridge engineer and Royal Designer,

whose career revolutionised the engineering world and spanned a mighty 50 years.

Emma was approached to craft the copy for this book, and to work as its editor. She spent a fascinating few months researching, writing and editing the book, following its progress as words and pictures came together to create a visually-stunning hard-back book that is a fitting tribute to a brilliant man. Bill Brown's Bridges was formally launched at the Institute of Civil Engineers in December 2015, and plans are now in place to enter it for an industry award and to secure as many media reviews and public sales as possible in 2016. You can read more about it and order a copy by clicking here.

Emma enjoyed this project tremendously and learnt a great deal about the book editing process along the way. She is now ready for her next challenge and would relish the chance to get her hands on another project like this.
