Emma Ward's Words

Book editing

Bill Brown's Bridges

Our client was commissioned to research, write, design and publish the official

biography of Dr William Brown, an esteemed suspension bridge engineer and Royal Designer,

whose career revolutionised the engineering world and spanned a mighty 50 years.

Emma was approached to craft the copy for this book, and to work as its editor. She spent a fascinating few months researching, writing and editing the book, following its progress as words and pictures came together to create a visually-stunning hardback book that is a fitting tribute to a brilliant man. Bill Brown's Bridges was formally launched at the Institute of Civil Engineers, shortly after its publication. You can read more about it and order a copy by clicking here.

Field-based rehabilitation handbook

Another book-based project came in the guise of a practical handbook for physiotherapists, occupational therepists and other rehabilitation specialists working with patients in conflict and disaster settings across the world. Humanity and Inclusion UK entrusted the editing and proofreading of this highly technical handbook to Emma, who delivered the work to a tight schedule at the start of 2020, ensuring high quality results and meticulous attention to detail.

Emma enjoyed these two larger projects tremendously and learnt a great deal about the book editing process along the way. She is now ready for her next challenge and would relish the chance to get her hands on another project like this.
